Angel J Martinez

Angel J Martinez M.S. has a diverse work experience spanning various sectors. From 2020 to present, they have been working as an Associate Director at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, focusing on improving access to COVID-19 information, testing, and care delivery in communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

As an Independent Consultant since 2017, Angel partners with clients to develop and implement health solutions that address overall community health across multiple sectors, with a specific focus on areas such as leadership development, community health, and program administration.

From 2019 to 2020, Angel worked as a Health Staff Analyst at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, where they analyzed data and developed implementation plans to address network gaps in provider coverage for vulnerable populations in need of substance abuse prevention and control services.

In their previous role as the Global AIDE Fellowship Director and Operations Manager at Floating Doctors (2018-2019), Angel played a key role in facilitating the acquisition of knowledge and leadership in global health and providing assistance to vulnerable communities through access, inclusion, diversity, and equity.

Angel also has experience as a Trainer/Coach at CrossFit City of Angels (2011-2018), where they trained small groups and conducted personal training sessions on CrossFit movements, focusing on improving fitness and health.

Prior to that, Angel pursued graduate studies at the University of Southern California in 2016 and served as the Administrative Coordinator at the Urban Health Institute at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (2015-2016). They also participated in the university's Post Baccalaureate Program in Pre-Medicine from 2013 to 2015.

Angel has additional experience as a Program Manager/HIV Testing Counselor at The Wall-Las Memorias Project (2012-2013), Assistant Director/Program Manager at the University of California, Santa Cruz (2009-2011), and Recreation Manager IV at the City of Santa Cruz (2007-2009).

Angel J Martinez M.S. holds a Master's Degree in Global Medicine from the University of Southern California, which was earned between 2016 and 2017. Prior to that, they pursued a Post Baccalaureate Degree in Pre-Medicine at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science from 2013 to 2015. Their undergraduate studies were completed at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where they obtained a degree in Community Studies with a focus on Health Disparities and Health Policy between 2004 and 2009.
