Richard Martinez

Richard Martinez was named Director in 2017. Since 2009, Richard has been superintendent of Pomona Unified School District, which serves 30,000 students in the cities of Diamond Bar and Pomona. Richard has focused on closing the achievement gap for inner-city students and under his leadership, PUSD has record acceptances from notable colleges and Ivy League universities throughout the United States. He is a recipient of the prestigious Francis M. Wheat Community Service Award for his tireless advocacy for children’s rights. Richard is a graduate of Cal State LA and the University of La Verne and is a sought-after expert in the field of urban education. He serves on several boards including Shoes That Fit, Pomona’s Promise, and is board chair for the Los Angeles Urban Preschool.
