Los Angeles Philharmonic
Leon Martell is an experienced instructor and playwright with a career spanning several decades in theater and education. Currently teaching theater history at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts since 2015, Leon also serves as a guest playwright with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and as a writer for various youth concert series, thereby enhancing children's exposure to music and performance. Leon's extensive teaching experience includes writing classes at UCLA Extension and playwriting at UCLA. Previously, Leon taught history and theater at The Country School, integrating dramatization and historical context into the curriculum. As a co-founder of Duck's Breath Mystery Theater, Leon contributed to a national touring comedy ensemble and has worked with various theater companies as both a playwright and director. Leon holds an MFA in Theater with a focus on Directing from the University of Iowa and a BA in History and Theater from the University of Vermont.
