Annie Buckley serves as the Director of the Institute for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Justice at San Diego State University, a role that includes co-founding the Institute in 2021 to promote scholarship and community engagement in the arts and social justice. In addition to this position, Buckley is a full professor in the School of Art and Design, focusing on visual studies, community engagement, and social practice, and has served in various leadership roles, including Director of the School of Art + Design and Associate Dean of Faculty Advancement. Buckley founded the Prison Arts Collective, which facilitates arts programming in state prisons, and is a contributing editor for the Los Angeles Review of Books, where contributions include pieces on contemporary art.
