Carolyn Steffen, CPA has extensive experience in finance and accounting roles. Starting in 1993, they worked at KPMG in various capacities, including financial statement and IT audit, and internal operations management. Carolyn was promoted to Senior Manager during their 10-year tenure, working in three different countries.
In 2003, Carolyn joined Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP as a Financial Controller, responsible for accounting operations. Carolyn oversaw accounts payable, billing and collections, entitlement reports, and year-end tax filings. Carolyn then joined the United Way of Greater Los Angeles in 2004 as VP Finance, leading the finance and accounting operations for the nonprofit organization.
In 2008, Carolyn moved to the California Community Foundation as a Financial Controller. Carolyn had strategic and managerial responsibility for all aspects of the finance and accounting operations, including risk management, grant-making, and tax forms.
From 2014 to 2017, Carolyn returned to Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP as the Financial Controller. Carolyn was responsible for the accounting operations, specializing in budgeting, treasury, compensation reporting, internal controls, and process improvements.
Since 2017, Carolyn has been working at Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. Carolyn started as the Chief Financial Officer/Vice President Finance and then became the Chief Operating & Financial Officer in July 2023. Their role involved overseeing all aspects of global finance and accounting operations for this nonprofit Destination Marketing Organization. Carolyn had expertise in nonprofit GAAP, IRS and regulatory requirements, corporate governance, and internal controls.
Carolyn Steffen, CPA holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Magna cum laude) in Accounting from California State University, Long Beach, completed in 1992. Carolyn also has a Master of Commerce in Information Systems Management from UNSW. Additionally, they are an active CPA certified by the California Board of Accountancy.
