Louisiana Legislative Auditor
William Potter is an experienced professional in journalism and audit services, currently serving as a Staff Auditor for the Louisiana Legislative Auditor since November 2023, focusing on performance audits of state programs. Prior to this role, William held various reporting positions at The Daily Advertiser from July 2019 to December 2023, including Education Reporter and Growth and Development Reporter. Additionally, William contributed to academics as an Adjunct Instructor at Northwestern State University, teaching Introduction to Sports Communication. Previous experience includes roles as a Writing Coach and Graduate Assistant at American University, and various editorial positions at The Daily Reveille, culminating in the role of Editor in Chief. William also engaged in investigative reporting with News21 and served as a Louisiana State Capitol Reporter for LSU Manship News Service. William holds a Master of Arts in Journalism from American University and a degree from Louisiana State University.

Our mission is to foster accountability and transparency in Louisiana government by providing the Legislature and others with audit services, fiscal advice, and other useful information. The Legislative Auditor is one of the largest public accounting practices in the State of Louisiana and certainly one of the largest employers of certified public accountants. However, in addition to accountants, the Legislative Auditor also employs public administrators, attorneys, actuaries, computer analysts, Information Technology auditors, and many other individuals who offer the public a broad spectrum of skills.
