Yohannes Afework Mebratu

Associate Staff Scientist at Lovelace Biomedical

Yohannes Afework Mebratu is a seasoned academic and research scientist with extensive experience in the field of medicine and veterinary science. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School since April 2022, Mebratu also holds the position of Project Leader at Bayer Pharmaceuticals for the Pulmonary Drug Discovery Lab and conducts research as a Scientist and Instructor at Brigham and Women's Hospital. With a background as an Associate Staff Scientist at Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute since 2008, Mebratu has focused on chronic lung diseases, contributing to high-impact research and publications. Mebratu has lectured as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico's School of Medicine and previously completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in respiratory immunology. Mebratu's educational qualifications include a Ph.D. from Freie Universität Berlin and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Addis Ababa University, complemented by a Master's degree in Veterinary Epidemiology.
