Sam Davies

Sam Davies has a diverse work experience in the photonics industry. Sam is currently the Director of Product Engineering at Lumentum, starting in February 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Rockley Photonics Inc. as a Senior Manager, Photonics Reliability from October 2021 to February 2023.

At Lumentum, Sam held two roles. From June 2020 to September 2021, they were the Senior Manager, Laser Chip Design and Reliability, leading the development of InP laser chips and photonic integrated devices. From February 2018 to June 2020, they were the Reliability Manager, responsible for the qualification of InP chips and photonic devices.

Before joining Lumentum, Sam worked at OCLARO from November 2016 to February 2018 as a Senior R&D Engineer/Project Manager, overseeing the development of InP based photonic integrated components. From May 2013 to May 2016, they worked as a Senior R&D Engineer at OCLARO, focusing on the design and simulation of epitaxial structures and device layout.

Sam also has internship experience. In 2006, they worked as an Engineer Intern at DATAFLOW MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS LIMITED, and in 2005, they served as an Engineer Intern at X-FAB, working on an R&D project testing passive components.

Sam Davies has a Master of Physics (MPhys) degree in Physics from The University of Manchester, which they completed from 2002 to 2006. Sam then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Semiconductor Physics at The University of Sheffield from 2006 to 2010.
