Brian Piccione

Brian Piccione, Ph.D., currently serves as Principal Optoelectronics Engineer at Luminar Technologies, having transitioned there in March 2023. Prior to this, Brian held multiple roles at Argo AI, culminating in Hardware Engineering Manager II, where responsibilities included managing a team delivering shortwave infrared single-photon avalanche diodes and micro-lens arrays for major automotive clients, while also supporting semiconductor program management and leading device design innovations. Experienced at Princeton Lightwave as Senior Staff Scientist, Brian focused on photodiode design and secured Air Force funding through a successful proposal. Brian's early career included significant research at the University of Pennsylvania, yielding multiple publications and expertise in silicon metamaterials and nanostructures. Brian earned a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, supplemented by an MS from Purdue University and a BS with Honors from Penn State University.
