Lutheran Social Services of New York

Today, in addition to caring for children, Lutheran Social Services of New York enables individuals to reach their full potential through its LIFE (Lutheran Initiatives for Enrichment) service programs. The agency helps seniors live independently, provides families for children, arranges safe and affordable housing, maintains hunger prevention centers and provides services for immigrants and refugees. Lutheran Social Services of New York draws on its heritage of hope for all people and looks back at a rich history of growth and development. We look ahead to the creation of new and expanded programs and services that give LIFE to individuals, families and communities. Together with you, we share Christ’s blessings with people in need. Each year, the agency helps thousands of people lead healthier, happier, safer and more successful lives, regardless of age, economic status, creed or race. LSSNY has been strengthening lives, families and communities for more than 125 years. This has been made possible through the work of dedicated staff, committed volunteers, and supportive congregations and communities. Lutheran Social Services of New York has its roots in the Bethlehem Home for Orphans, founded in 1886 by Lutheran church leaders. Thus began the Lutheran presence in what would become an organized effort at child welfare in New York and would result in the creation of Lutheran Social Services of New York. Our combined LIFE services touch more than 25,000 people annually.
