Shuai Zheng has a diverse range of work experience in the field of chemistry. Shuai is currently employed as a Scientist II at Lycia Therapeutics since 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of California, Berkeley from 2020 to 2023. During this role, their accomplishments included developing fluorescent probes for super resolution microscopy and contributing to projects related to cell-penetrating miniature proteins and non-canonical amino acid incorporation.
Before their postdoctoral position, Shuai Zheng was a PhD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania from 2015 to 2020, where they focused on functionalization of unsaturated functional groups via photoredox/nickel dual-catalysis. Shuai'sresearch also involved utilizing the photoredox proton-coupled electron transfer strategy for nickel-catalyzed C-C cross-coupling chemistry and non-canonical amide synthesis. Additionally, they completed a summer research project at the University of Pennsylvania in 2015 studying reactivities on a terminal zirconium methylidene complex.
Prior to their doctoral studies, Shuai Zheng worked at Washington University in St. Louis from 2013 to 2015. Shuai was a Research Assistant in Dr. Mirica's group, focusing on the structure and function of nickel complexes and their catalytic activity in synthetic and biological chemistry. Shuai also served as a Teaching Assistant during this time.
Earlier in their career, Shuai Zheng gained research experience as a Research Assistant at Zhejiang University. Shuai worked on the synthesis and application of functionalized POSS materials under the supervision of Prof. Chao Gao from 2012 to 2013. Shuai also worked as an undergraduate Research Assistant under the guidance of Prof. Bingfeng Shi, where they focused on the application of C-H activation in natural product synthesis from 2010 to 2012. During this time, they co-authored a publication in ChemComm.
Shuai Zheng completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Organic & Polymer Chemistry at Zhejiang University from 2009 to 2013. In 2011, Zheng also attended North Carolina State University, focusing on Polymer Chemistry. Shuai then pursued further education at Washington University in St. Louis, earning a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Inorganic Chemistry from 2013 to 2015. Finally, Zheng completed their education at the University of Pennsylvania, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemistry from 2015 to 2020.
