Viola Lam has a strong background in scientific research, with a focus on immunology and molecular biology. Viola began their career as a Summer Research Intern at the University of California San Francisco in 2005. Viola later returned to UCSF in 2007 as a Staff Research Associate II, where they contributed to various projects and gained valuable laboratory experience.
In 2010, Viola embarked on their PhD journey at UCSF, working in the Lewis L. Lanier Lab. During their doctoral studies, they conducted extensive research on a novel transcription factor exclusive to natural killer (NK) cells. Their thesis project involved generating a conditional knockout mouse model to investigate the role of the transcription factor in NK cell development and function. Viola utilized various techniques, including flow cytometry, ex vivo proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, mouse cytomegalovirus infection, and RNA sequencing. Viola successfully defended their thesis and completed their PhD in 2017.
Following their PhD, Viola joined Pfizer as a Senior Scientist in 2017, where they continued their research on immunology and molecular biology. After a year and a half, they transitioned to Lyell Immunopharma in 2019 as a Scientist II. In October 2021, they were promoted to the role of Senior Scientist at Lyell Immunopharma.
Throughout their career, Viola has demonstrated a strong commitment to scientific discovery and has contributed to advancing our understanding of immunological processes.
Viola Lam has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biotechnology from the University of California, Davis, which they obtained from 2003 to 2007. Viola then pursued further education and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Immunology from the University of California, San Francisco, completing the program from 2010 to 2017.
