Liza Lopez has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Liza is currently serving as the Vice President of Process Scale-up and Manufacturing at Lygos, a position they took on in 2021. Prior to this, Liza held various leadership positions at Zymergen, including Director of Chemical Engineering from 2018 to 2021 and Associate Director of Chemical Engineering from 2018 to 2021. During their time at Zymergen, Liza built and led the Chemical Engineering function, overseeing process development and scale-up of chemical conversion processes. Liza also managed a team of 12 employees.
Before joining Zymergen, Liza worked at Rennovia, Inc. as a Principal Engineer from 2014 to 2018. In this role, they led cross-functional teams and played a pivotal role in process development for value-added chemicals derived from sugars. Liza was responsible for conducting techno-economic analysis and generating pilot-scale customer samples.
Prior to Rennovia, Liza served as a Process Development Engineer at Amyris Inc from 2012 to 2014. Liza'sresponsibilities included transferring technologies to contract manufacturing organizations and preparing technical documentation for process validation.
Liza's career began at DuPont, where they worked as an R&D Engineer from 2006 to 2011. Liza'srole involved project management and evaluation of fermentation contract manufacturing organizations for enzyme production. Liza played a critical role in selecting the most suitable CMO based on process requirements, capital, and production cost targets.
Early in their career, Liza gained experience as a Summer Intern at Dow Chemical in 2001 and 1999. During these internships, they worked on kinetic studies, reaction mechanism development, and process control schemes in an industrial R&D setting.
Liza Lopez has an extensive education history in the field of Chemical Engineering. Liza first attended the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez from 1994 to 1999, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Liza then pursued further education at the same institution from 1999 to 2003, earning a Master of Science (MS) degree in Chemical Engineering.
Continuing their academic journey, Liza enrolled at the University of Delaware in 2001 and completed their studies in 2007. During this time, they obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering, solidifying their expertise in the field.
In addition to their formal education, Liza also possesses a Six Sigma Green Belt certification from DuPont. However, specific details about when and where they obtained this certification are currently unavailable.
