Mary E. Allen is a seasoned social scientist currently serving as the Socioeconomics Coordinator for NOAA's Coral Reef Conservation Program since January 2020. With a strong background in interdisciplinary research on human dimensions related to coastal and marine ecosystems, Mary has previously held roles at West Virginia University as a Postdoctoral Researcher, and at East Carolina University as a Human Dimensions Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. Professional experience includes extensive fieldwork in marine ecosystems as a SCUBA diving instructor and dive master, as well as research assistant roles focused on invasive species and water quality monitoring. Mary holds a Ph.D. in Coastal Resources Management and Human Dimensions from East Carolina University, along with a Master's degree in Marine Resources Management and a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University Galveston Campus.
