Shabnam Afshar

Secretary at Lyrical Opposition

Shabnam Afshar is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapy, who currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Lyrical Opposition. She also works as a Mental Health Therapist at Fremont Union High School District.

I believe therapy is a give-and-take process of cultivating an honest and secure bond that allows the client to feel empowered to face their struggles, and grow in self-understanding in order to life a fulfilling life.

My purpose as a therapist is to create a warm, nonjudgmental atmosphere based on openness, authenticity, and trust so that the client feels free to share their deepest feelings and heal from whatever may be ailing them.

My theoretical orientation is integrative and heavily rooted in client-centered, existential, and cognitive behavioral therapy. While I use these approaches to guide my therapy, I strongly believe in customizing treatment to fit the specific needs of each unique individual. Being an Iranian American, I value working from a culturally sensitive mind frame to allow deeper understanding of the numerous and complex issues that face a diverse population. My therapeutic style is caring, genuine, honest, interactive, and direct with an appropriate dash of humor.
