Douglas Hamilton

Co-Founder & Board Member at MACRO Trials

Dr. Douglas Hamilton is a dermatologist and physician-scientist who initially co-founded MACRO – along with Dr. Babak Azizzadeh – to facilitate and streamline his own clinical research endeavors. Dr. Hamilton graduated from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, and completed his internship at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. He also completed residencies at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Hamilton is an avid researcher, having published extensively within his field and serving as Principal Investigator (PI) across numerous FDA clinical trials. He was one of the first doctors in the United States to treat patients with Artefill® (now Bellafill®), going on to author the first published report on this therapy. He became one of only a handful of physicians to be involved in the FDA clinical trials, and the only physician to lead a clinical site in all three FDA phases (Phase 1, 2 and 3).

Certified by the American Board of Dermatologists and the American Board of Pathology, Dr. Hamilton is an integral committee member of the Special Task Force on Branding and the New Technologies Committee of the American Society for Dermatological Surgery (ASDS). In addition to running a private dermatology practice in across two offices in Los Angeles, he serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
