Doyne Farmer currently serves as the Baillie Gifford Professor of Complex Systems Science at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford, since August 2023. Farmer's extensive experience includes roles as Chief Scientist at Macrocosm Group since 2020 and various positions at the University of Oxford, including Director of Complexity Economics at the Institute for New Economic Thinking, Professor of Mathematics, and Associate Member of Nuffield College since 2012. Additionally, Farmer is an Associate Member of the Oxford-Man Institute of Quantitative Finance and an External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute since 1999. As a Senior Research Fellow at Christ Church, Oxford since 2017 and a Distinguished Fellow at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research from 2010 to 2012, Farmer also served as an Extraordinary Professor at LUISS Guido Carli University from 2007 to 2009. Farmer's earlier career includes leadership roles at Prediction Company and Los Alamos National Laboratory, complemented by an academic background with a PhD in Physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a BS in Physics from Stanford University.
