Dr. Richard Byrne

Dr. Richard Byrne has extensive work experience in various roles and organizations. Dr. Richard began their career as a Research Assistant at Swansea University in 2009, where they designed and built an Android-based mobile application for a project on physical activity and exercise. Dr. Richard also conducted interviews and wrote progress reports for the project.

From 2012 to 2013, Dr. Byrne worked as a Software Developer at SureView Systems, where they wrote critical software solutions in C# and C++ for integrating security devices with monitoring software.

In 2013, they joined The University of Nottingham as a Software/Project Developer, working on different research projects using platforms such as Android, iOS, and C#. Dr. Richard rapidly prototyped solutions and enhanced their technical programming skills.

In 2014, Dr. Byrne became a PHD Candidate and Tutor at RMIT University, focusing on their research topic of "Designing Digital Vertigo Experiences." Dr. Richard developed hardware prototypes, conducted user studies, presented peer-reviewed work at international conferences, and organized design workshops using various programming languages and platforms.

From 2017 to 2020, they worked at CACI Information Intelligence Group as a Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, and Technical Consultant. During this time, they gained experience in technical consulting and contributed to the development and quality of software deliveries.

Finally, since 2020, Dr. Byrne has been working at Made Tech, initially as a Senior Engineer and later promoted to Lead Engineer. Their responsibilities include leading teams to deliver digital, data, and technology solutions that improve society and driving change through upskilling and influencing others.

Dr. Richard Byrne completed their education in a chronological order. From 2005 to 2008, they pursued a BSc degree in Computer Science at Swansea University. In 2014, Dr. Byrne enrolled at RMIT University, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in 2018. Additionally, they obtained several certifications, including UX Foundation Training from UXTraining in January 2019, Scrum Master certification from The Knowledge Academy in March 2018, and AWS Certified Developer – Associate certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in April 2019.
