Michael Barnett

Michael Barnett is a staff color scientist at Magic Leap since August 2025, following a tenure as a senior engineer in vision science at Johnson & Johnson Vision, where research studies were designed to enhance contact lens and intraocular lens products. Academic experience includes a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, alongside a graduate research assistantship, and significant contributions as a lab manager at Stanford University, overseeing a multimillion-dollar research project on human object recognition. Earlier roles included research assistant positions at UC Irvine and UC Berkeley, where studies focused on visual perception and neuroimaging, as well as a product design specialist role at Arcade Works. Prior experience includes CAD/CAM programming and machining at CDM Engineering.
