Mariam Mshanga is a Senior Payroll Accountant at Magnusson Klemencic Associates. Prior to their current role, Mariam was a Staff Accountant at Infectious Disease Research Institute and at the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW).
Mariam began their career in 2009 as a Staff Accountant at the ICRW. In this role, they managed and monitored expense metrics, improved the efficiency of the organization's semi-monthly Payroll and Benefits operations, and ensured accuracy and compliance with specific Grants and Contracts restrictions and requirements. Mariam also prepared bank deposits and customer billings for Accounts Receivable, posted journal entries for accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Receivable, and provided ad hoc reports as needed.
In 2011, Mariam transitioned to the Infectious Disease Research Institute, where they continued to manage payroll and benefits operations for a large number of employees. In addition to their previous responsibilities, Mariam also performed analysis and reconciliation of various Balance Sheet accounts, including Bank & Receivables accounts for month end processing and prep of the Financials. Mariam also served as a liaison between HR/Finance-Employees and interpreted complex company directives, accounting policies, and emerging regulatory requirements. Mariam provided training to new and existing employees on these topics. Finally, Mariam also performed 941 tax liability reconciliations to the general ledger postings and supported efforts on the annual audits of employee benefit plans (Form 5500).
Mariam Mshanga holds a Master of Science in Financial Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University. Mariam also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Strayer University.
