Barbara Toomey

Barbara Toomey, PhD, is a seasoned scientist currently serving as a Staff Scientist at MaineHealth Institute for Research since February 2020, with previous roles including Staff Scientist I and Research Associate II. Between June 2014 and March 2022, Barbara was the owner of Moongate Farm Crafts, which focused on creating unique textile products from recycled materials. Past experience includes positions as a Survey Interviewer at Muskie School & Cutler Institute, Conservation Associate at Maine Audubon, and Educational Assistant at Naugatuck Valley Community College, where laboratory preparations for biology classes were handled. Additionally, Barbara worked as a Grant Writer for REACH NEWTOWN INC and held postdoctoral research roles at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and Duke University. Barbara holds a PhD in Biology from Stanford University and a Bachelor's degree in Zoology from Connecticut College.
