Amber Shockey is a Managing Director on our In-House Counsel Practice team. For more than 17 years, Amber has handled complex in-house legal searches that require deep knowledge of the market and talent pool as well as her client’s organization, strategic goals and culture. While her industry reach is broad, including private equity, CPG, biotech and manufacturing, she has a particular understanding of the energy industry having grown up in a Texas oil family and practiced energy law herself.
Amber has a comprehensive view of the Texas and New York metro area markets as a current Connecticut resident working out of our New York office and as the former lead for our in-house practice in Dallas. She uses this dual-market understanding to educate her clients and candidates on market conditions and to set expectations. Amber also educates herself on the clients’ current state and long-term paths to provide personalized advice that will help them structure their current open position, grow their teams and retain talent.
Amber is passionate about helping people achieve their goals. She has followed numerous candidates throughout their careers, placing many in their first in-house roles and coaching them as they have achieved (and often placed them in) their first general counsel positions. She is a dedicated career coach advising her candidates on how to position themselves for specific roles and helping them identify the unique skills they possess that will help them on their career journey. Amber’s ability to connect with candidates is strengthened by having completed two corporate relocations for her husband’s job. She knows and understands first-hand how to talk candidates through choosing to relocate their family for a new opportunity.
Amber started her legal career practicing law with Jenkens & Gilchrist. She later joined Thompson & Knight to focus on energy law. Learning after five years in the practice of law that she preferred the people side of the legal industry, Amber joined a prestigious Texas legal recruiting firm in 2005 and has been recruiting for corporations and law firms since then. Prior to joining Major, Lindsey & Africa, she operated her own recruiting firm serving corporate clients throughout Texas.
