Strategic Lead - Sustainable Transport at Manchester Adult Education

Catriona Swanson is a seasoned urban planner with extensive experience in sustainable transport and infrastructure development. Currently serving as the Strategic Lead for Sustainable Transport at Manchester City Council since September 2024, Catriona previously held the position of Associate Director and Active Travel Sector Lead at PJA from February 2021 to September 2024. Catriona also contributed as a Specialist Design Expert for the Design Council and participated as a Mentor in the RTPI NUTURE mentoring programme while serving on the England Policy Committee. Earlier roles include Senior Planner at Arup and Principal Officer for Infrastructure at Salford City Council, where Catriona led significant transport infrastructure initiatives and regeneration projects. Educational credentials include a Master’s degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from The University of Manchester and a Bachelor's degree in Geography from Lancaster University, complemented by ongoing German language studies.
