Mohammad Habeebullah

Mohammad Habeebullah OBE JP has dedicated his career to working in the public and NGO sectors as a Lead Practitioner and Consultant in Community Planning, Urban Regeneration, Housing and Education. He has been a pioneer in developing innovative solutions to public sector policies effecting disadvantaged communities; and is a published author and social science researcher. His work has attracted national recognition from Association Metropolitan Authorities and Royal Institute of British Architects, and has been featured by the BBC and The Guardian. He was awarded an OBE in 2012 by Her Majesty the Queen for his lifelong work and services to the community of Greater Manchester.

Mohammad is passionate about enacting change for disadvantaged communities. He has been a leading figure in the voluntary sector in the North West for more than 30 years; setting up a number of accredited training, further education, social welfare, media training and employment creation projects. He is one of the founding members of Kashmir Youth Training Project (KYP) in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale. KYP is an independent charity dedicated to the development and economic regeneration of Rochdale and North West, and is one of the largest self-financed youth/adult training and employment creation projects in the UK.

Mohammad has considerable experience as Director and Trustee of a number of charities and social enterprise projects including Rochdale Citizen Advice Bureau and CDF North West. Currently he is a Trustee, Chair and founding member of the Prestwich Muslim Welfare Trust in Bury and Al-Falah Social Welfare Trust in Manchester. He also served as a Magistrate for the Rochdale and Bury bench for more than 20 years.

Mohammad’s most recent work includes establishing the Al Habeeb Foundation in 2005. The Foundation is focused on supporting and empowering disadvantaged communities in the UK and around the world and aims to promote Equality, Diversity and Representation in the public and private sectors. The Foundation provides technology based education and training, employment creation and the provision of primary healthcare and social services to rural communities in Bangladesh. In the UK, the Foundation is leading initiatives to encourage students from all backgrounds to enter Further Education, Higher Education and Vocational & Non-Vocational Training.

Mohammad is happily married with four children. His interests include reading, football and gardening.

Mohammad joined the Board of Governors on 1 July 2017. He also attends meetings of the Academic Board on behalf of the Board of Governors.
