Jakov Kucan

CTO at Manifold

VP, Data & Platform Engineering at Manifold, where he ensures we build the right data solutions for customers—working with customers to articulate the problem, understanding technical business constraints, selecting the best tools, all the way through to helping with implementation. He understands at a deep level that AI solutions must be part of broader production systems, and is well-versed in a variety of technologies, including AWS, Spark, and Docker. Recent product successes include an experimentation pipeline for rapid machine learning model development for a medical device company, improving IoT connectivity for a photonics company, and a risk model for a health IT company.

Prior to Manifold, Jakov was Chief Architect at Kyruus, a company that offers a data-driven platform to better match patients and physicians. There, he helped architect a data pipeline that that aggregated over 1000 healthcare data sources (both batch and streaming); cleansed the data; used entity resolution and rule-based techniques to combine data; and then provided a large-scale infrastructure for doing data science, as well as search and relational queries. Before his time at Kyruus, Jakov was Director of Product Strategy at PTC, where he was responsible for their Mathcad product—an engineering notebook. He worked with the engineering team at all levels, including incorporating optimization algorithms and launching a freemium version to increase adoption.

Jakov has a BSE in Computer Science and Engineering and a MA in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania; he has a PhD in Computer Science from MIT. He has been a co-inventor of multiple patent applications, including this one for a “System and method for maintaining the genealogy of documents.”
