Brhianna Malcolm currently serves as the Food Sourcing Coordinator at MANNA FoodBank in Asheville, NC, since December 2020. Previously, Brhianna held various roles at Utah State University, including Graduate Student, Engagement Coordinator in the Student Sustainability Office, and Student Sustainability Engagement Coordinator as an AmeriCorps Intern. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in Natural Resources with a focus on Food Insecurity from Utah State University and a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
MANNA FoodBank - Asheville NC
MANNA’s daily operations involve procuring, warehousing, and distributing food to over 220 partner agencies in the 16 counties of Western North Carolina – 18.2 million pounds in 2017/2018. The partner agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and other emergency providers to support the more than 100,000 people who are facing food insecurity in WNC. In addition, MANNA provides direct services through our Feeding Kids Year Round Program, which provides MANNA Packs and Summer Packs and our MANNA Food Helpline and team of SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) outreach workers who assist people with access to cash benefits to supplement their food budget. Food insecurity rates are high in WNC, impacting more than 23.6% of children. Rural poverty is a particular challenge in the 6,434 square mile service area, and MANNA is committed to providing excellent service in a sometimes challenging terrain and environment. MANNA FoodBank is the proud recipient of a 4-star Charity Navigator rating for 8 consecutive years, and has a solid network of relationships with local partners, funders, and government agencies. It has a strong, talented 21-member board and an experienced and passionate staff.
