Patrik Backman is Founder and General Partner at OpenOcean, an early stage venture capital investor focusing on Data Software in Europe. The company has successfully been part of scaling companies like TrueCaller, Supermetrics, Booksy, Bitrise, IQM, Loopme, and Nosto from very early stages to significant global software companies.

Patrik is a co-founder of MariaDB and worked actively in the company’s early years on business planning, product strategy, and fundraising. Earlier in his career, Patrik spent 6 years managing product and business development at MySQL AB before its exit to Sun Microsystems.

Patrik holds a Master of Science (Engineering) degree from Helsinki University of Technology and a Master of Science (Finance) from Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki.
