Andrew Bell

Chief Of International Engagement at Maritime New Zealand

Andrew Bell has a diverse work experience spanning over 18 years. Andrew currently holds the position of Chief of International Engagement at Maritime New Zealand, a role they have been serving since April 2021. Prior to this, they worked as the Principal Adviser International at Maritime New Zealand from May 2020 to March 2021.

Before joining Maritime New Zealand, Andrew held various roles at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Andrew served as the Manager Inshore Fisheries from August 2019 to May 2020, where they were responsible for managing strategic and operational policies. Andrew then transitioned to the role of Manager, Border and Biosecurity Systems from an unspecified date in 2014 until August 2019. In this capacity, they supported the Biosecurity Ministerial Advisory Committee and the Biosecurity 2025 program, focusing on marine biosecurity and representing New Zealand in global initiatives related to Ballast Water and Biofouling management at the International Maritime Organization.

Before their tenure at MPI, Andrew worked as a Senior Science Advisor from an unspecified date in 2011 to an unspecified date in 2014. Prior to that, they served as a Senior Advisor at MAF Biosecurity New Zealand from 2006 to 2011. Additionally, Andrew has experience as a Field Officer at Frontier Mapping Ltd in 2006 and as a Technical Assistant at Crop and Food Research from 2003 to 2004.

Andrew Bell attended The University of Auckland from 2000 to 2005, where they pursued a PhD in Biological Sciences.
