Peter Brunt

Deputy Director, Regulatory Systems Design at Maritime New Zealand

Peter Brunt serves as the Deputy Chief Executive for Regulatory Frameworks at Maritime New Zealand since October 2020, overseeing regulatory reform, operational policy, legal services, and international maritime engagement. Previously, Peter held key leadership roles at the Department of Conservation, focusing on diverse policy areas, and at the Ministry for the Environment, where responsibilities included freshwater reform and resource management. Additionally, Peter's early career involved significant contributions to climate change strategy in the UK, including work with the European Parliament on energy issues and leadership roles in various UK government departments. Peter holds an MSc in Political Theory and a BSc in Politics from Swansea University.
