Daniel McDowell is an experienced Field Service Engineer at Markes International since September 2021, specializing in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various analytical instruments. Prior to this role, Daniel worked as an Analytical Chemist at Elite Mobile, where responsibilities included establishing a quality control laboratory. Daniel's academic background includes a PhD in Analytical Food Authentication and a Master’s degree in Sustainable Rural Development from Queen's University Belfast. Research experience includes investigating microalgae as a sustainable feed source and contributing to food security through the study of edible oils. Daniel has held various positions, including a POST Fellowship, where a scientific briefing paper on "sugar and health" was developed to inform parliamentary decision-making. Additional roles ranged from agronomy data collection to conservation efforts in Nevada and public engagement in environmental education.

In 2018 we launched Centri, an automated multi-mode sampling platform for pre concentration of analytes from liquid, solid and gaseous samples. Centri has meant we have extended our reach for sample preparation techniques into Headspace, HS-trap, SPME, SPME-trap and high-capacity sorptive extraction (with trap) in addition to thermal desorption.
