Professor David Smith

Professor David Smith currently serves as the Senior Director of Mars Sustainable Solutions and Chief Marine Science Officer at Mars Inc., a position held since August 2019. Concurrently, Professor Smith has been with the University of Essex since September 1997, where duties include directing the Tropical Marine Biology MSc program and overseeing the Coral Reef Research Unit, focusing on both laboratory and field-based research in locations such as Indonesia and the Seychelles. Additionally, Professor Smith has been a Senior Marine Biologist with Operation Wallacea since January 1998, managing marine biology research at the Indonesia Marine research facility in the Wakatobi Marine National Park. Professor Smith holds a BSc in Marine Zoology from Queen Mary University of London, earned between 1994 and 1997.
