Maryland Cardiac Surgery Quality Initiative
Rawn Salenger, MD, is a faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and a cardiac surgeon in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. Dr. Salenger performs the full array of adult cardiac surgical services with a special interest in complex valve surgery and coronary bypass surgery.
Previously, Dr. Salenger served as the Director of Valve Surgery at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Suffern, New York where he established a multi-disciplinary Heart Valve Team.
Dr. Salenger graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the Union College/Albany Medical College Seven Year Medical Program in 1995. He completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Massachusetts, and subsequently, a fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
He has published medical literature on minimizing stroke risk during bypass surgery as well as a book chapter on patient care after heart surgery.

Maryland Cardiac Surgery Quality Initiative
Founded in 2013, the Maryland Cardiac Surgery Quality Initiative (MCSQI) is a non-profit consortium of the state’s cardiac surgery programs that shares and analyzes clinical outcomes data and process protocols for the purpose of improving the quality of cardiac surgical care.
