Museum Director, Concord Historic Site at Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission

Shyra Peyton is an experienced museum director currently leading the Concord Historic Site for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission since February 2025. With a robust background in program management, Shyra previously served as Senior Project Program Manager at City Parks Alliance, overseeing flagship public programs from November 2020 to August 2023. Earlier roles include Community Outreach Specialist and Festival Coordinator at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and substantial contributions at the Smithsonian Institution as Participant and Program Coordinator and Special Events Assistant. Shyra's career began with a focus on education and community engagement as a TEFL Teacher Trainer with the Peace Corps and a Recruitment and Member Support Specialist with AmeriCorps NCCC. Shyra holds a Master’s Degree in Folklore Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Media Arts from Clark Atlanta University.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a bi-county agency empowered by the State of Maryland in 1927 to acquire, develop, maintain and administer a regional system of parks within Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, and to provide land use planning for the physical development of these counties. The agency gained responsibility for public recreation program in Prince George's County in 1970.
