Chris Sutherland

Chris Sutherland has extensive work experience in the insurance industry. Chris currently serves as the Chief General Insurance Officer at MAS - Medical Assurance Society. Prior to this role, they worked as the Executive Manager - Strategic Broker Partnerships at Suncorp New Zealand from 2019 to 2022. Chris also held various positions at Tower Insurance, including General Manager - Pacific Region, Director - Tower Pacific Subsidiaries, and Head of Pacific Region from 2016 to 2019. Before that, they were the National Manager - Direct Distribution at QBE Insurance in 2015. Chris had a long tenure at Lumley, where they served in roles such as Channel Manager - Westpac, General Manager (Acting) - Lumley Business Solutions, and Channel Manager - Westpac Insurance from 2011 to 2015. Prior to Lumley, they worked at IAG New Zealand as the Head of State Personal Lines in 2009 and as a National Manager in various roles from 2002 to 2008. Chris started their career at AMI Insurance as a Branch Manager from 1994 to 2002.

Chris Sutherland obtained a BA from Victoria University of Wellington in 1991. Chris then pursued a PG DipBusAdmin from Massey University, which they completed in 2002. In 1998, they earned an ANZIIF (Assoc) degree in Insurance from ANZIIF.
