Benji Mauer

Principal UX Designer at Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority

Benji Mauer has a diverse and extensive work experience. Benji started their career as a Junior Designer at Wired Digital in 2000. From 2001 to 2003, they worked as a Design & Communications team member at the Information Technology, War, and Peace Project at Brown University. In 2005, they co-founded and became a worker-owner at Quilted, where they developed experiences for various organizations. Benji also served as the Director of the US Federation of Worker Cooperatives from 2011 to 2014 and as the Co-Founder and Director of Make Shift Boston from 2011 to 2018.

In 2006, they worked as a Faculty member at Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA). From 2014 to 2016, they worked as a UX Consultant at YouthBuild USA, designing a data and reporting product. Benji then joined ActBlue Technical Services in 2017, initially as a Product Designer and later as a Product Manager and Senior User Researcher.

Currently, Benji Mauer is working at MBTA as the Principal UX Designer, supporting the design team in creating an accessible and consistent digital experience for MBTA riders and staff.

Benji Mauer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Web-based installation on the intersections of transgender identity, masculinity, and technology from Hampshire College in the years 1998 to 2002. Additionally, Benji obtained a certification as a Certified Scrum Product Owner® (CSPO®) from the Scrum Alliance in July 2018.
