Robert Conway has extensive work experience in the technology and banking industry. Robert is currently working as the Chief Technology Officer at Material Exchange since February 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the CTO at freemarketFX from March 2019 to February 2023.
From 2016 to 2018, Robert held two roles at Earthport - the Head of Technology, VP from January to December 2018 and the Head of Architecture, Engineering and Delivery from January 2016 to January 2018. During their time at Earthport, they were responsible for leading technology functions, implementing Agile development and DevOps, and reducing offshore software delivery costs.
Before joining Earthport, Robert served as the Global Head of Project Execution, Consultant at HSBC Commercial Banking from June 2015 to December 2016. Prior to that, they were the Head of Operations IT, Director at Barclays Corporate Banking from December 2013 to May 2015, where they successfully turned around a failing digital transformation program and led a team of 250 IT staff.
From 2005 to 2013, Robert had multiple roles at Barclays Capital. Robert was the Head of Emerging Markets FX IT, Director from January 2012 to December 2013. Additionally, they served as the eCommerce IT Delivery Lead/Programme Manager, Director from February 2007 to December 2011 and as the eCommerce IT Delivery Lead/Programme Manager, VP from April 2005 to January 2007. During their time at Barclays Capital, Robert played a crucial role in creating a technology roadmap, building a global technology team, and significantly increasing trade volumes and profits.
Robert began their career at Citi, where they worked in various positions within Foreign Exchange technology from 1995 to 2005. Robert started as a developer and progressed to roles such as business analyst, technical lead, and project manager. During their time at Citi, they delivered critical projects in real-time trading, e-commerce, risk, and automation, and developed expertise in both Cash and Derivatives businesses.
Prior to their career in banking and technology, Robert worked as a Software Engineer at EDS Group from April 1993 to January 1995 and as a Hardware Design Engineer at Marconi Instruments from September 1992 to March 1993.
Robert Conway attended UMIST from 1989 to 1992, where they pursued a degree in Electronic Engineering. The specific field of study during their time at UMIST is not known.
