Marisa Shuman

Teaching Fellow at Math for America

Marisa Shuman is a dedicated educator with extensive experience in computer science and mathematics. Currently serving as a Computer Science Teacher for the NYC Department of Education since July 2013, Marisa plans and instructs Algebra II and 8th Grade classes, integrating inquiry-based methodologies into the curriculum. In parallel, Marisa instructs at Giant Machines, designing creative summer course lessons and managing technology in the classroom. Additionally, Marisa has been a Teaching Fellow with Math for America since June 2017. Marisa holds a degree in Computer Science Education K-12 from Hunter College (2022-2023), a Master's Degree in Bilingual, Multilingual, and Multicultural Education from The City College of New York (2014-2016), and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from SUNY Geneseo (2008-2012). Marisa also served as a Team Captain and walker for Susan G. Komen for the Cure from January 2010 to August 2012, raising funds and awareness for breast cancer.
