Master Teacher - Mathematics at Math for America

Michelle Varuzza Sugrim, PhD, has extensive experience in mathematics education, currently serving as an Instructional Coach and Mathematics Teacher at the Business Technology Early College High School since 2019, where courses include Calculus and a self-developed Statistical Research course. Prior roles include teaching at NYC Department of Education since 2006, mentoring new teachers, and leading curriculum development across multiple high schools, including Queens Metropolitan High School and Maspeth High School. With a strong focus on pedagogy, curriculum mapping, and data-driven instruction, Sugrim has contributed to educational advancement as a Master Teacher for Math for America and as an adjunct professor at multiple local colleges. Sugrim holds a PhD in Literacy for Learners at Risk and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education in Mathematics from St. John's University, alongside a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Baruch College.
