Akshay R. has a diverse work experience that spans over several industries and roles. Akshay began their career at Cummins Inc. as the Manager of Electronic Controls Application Engineering from 2003 to 2005. Akshay then worked at the University of Pennsylvania from 2006 to 2008 as a Research Staff at GRASP Lab, as well as a teaching staff member at the Math and ESE Departments, while also pursuing a Master's degree. Following this, Akshay R. interned at Bosch in 2009. Akshay then pursued their Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University from 2008 to 2013. Currently, they hold a leadership position at MathWorks as the Head of the Advanced Research & Technology Office and is also a Lead Research Scientist. In this role, they are responsible for overseeing worldwide programs that accelerate the impact of research and innovation on engineering. Akshay manages a team of experts in various fields and contributes to the development of products such as Simulink and Stateflow.

Akshay R. received a Bachelor in Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics and Telecommunication from Savitribai Phule Pune University in the years 1999 to 2003. Akshay then pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania from 2006 to 2007.
