DeAnna Cummings has a diverse work experience in the arts and culture sector. DeAnna currently serves as the Director of the Arts & Culture Program at the McKnight Foundation. In 1995, they co-founded Juxtaposition Arts and served as the CEO, playing a key role in attracting significant investments to the neighborhood and organizing capital campaigns. Before that, they worked as a Program Officer at Metropolitan Regional Arts Council from 1999 to 2001. Their earlier experience includes serving as a Senior Administrator at the Council On Black Minnesotans from 1993 to 1999. Overall, DeAnna has a strong background in strategic leadership, community engagement, and program management in the arts and cultural field.
DeAnna Cummings has a diverse educational background. DeAnna first pursued their Bachelor's degree at the University of Minnesota, where they focused on sociology and psychology from 1988 to 1992.
Several years later, in 2008, Cummings attended the Harvard Kennedy School to earn a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree. During their time at Harvard, they specialized in arts-based community development.
In 2016, Cummings furthered their education by enrolling in the DeVos Institute Fellowship in Arts Management at the University of Maryland. This program provided their with valuable knowledge and skills in arts management as a DeVos Institute Fellow.
Through these educational experiences, DeAnna Cummings has acquired a strong foundation in a variety of subjects, including sociology, psychology, arts-based community development, and arts management.
