Nelson Canter

Nelson E. Canter is a distinguished attorney and civil litigator with extensive experience in the insurance industry and legal practice. As a Partner and Chair of the Insurance Subrogation Practice Group at McLaughlin & Stern, LLP since September 2017, Canter specializes in complex civil litigation focused on property subrogation for insurance carriers. A Life Member of the Purchase Fire Department, Canter has dedicated over 40 years as a volunteer firefighter, advancing through the ranks to Assistant Chief. Additionally, Canter served as Town Justice for Harrison from January 2012 to December 2015, overseeing civil and criminal matters. Prior experience includes tenure as an Assistant District Attorney in Westchester County, where Canter prosecuted numerous cases and coordinated significant narcotics investigations. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Law (JD) from Seton Hall University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society from American University.
