Jeff Weidman

Well-known for his proactive and practical approach to risk management, Jeff Weidman’s primary goal is to provide advice and develop risk management strategies that resolve problems before they arise. When faced with a challenge, his skill as a litigator combined with the strong relationships he has with his clients enables him to effectively direct his clients and other parties to efficient resolutions.

Whether he is negotiating compromises through mediation, Judicial Dispute Resolution processes, or in a courtroom, Jeff keeps his focus on his clients’ interests and goals. They can expect him to work hard to protect their interests while providing good and practical results. He has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, as well as courts in other Canadian jurisdictions including British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and the Northwest Territories, where he is a called member of the bar.

With particular skill in construction litigation matters, Jeff has defended developers, engineers, contractors, and a variety of sub-trades in construction litigation cases, including structural and building envelope deficiencies in residential developments, hotels, and condo buildings.

His insurance and risk management experience includes defense work in professional liability claims and dispute resolution for insurers in areas such as property damage litigation, bodily injury defense, product liability, and class action lawsuits. He has also defended insurers and medical professionals in negligence and breach of contract claims involving expert opinions on applicable standards of care and damage calculation.

Jeff is a people person who enjoys finding creative and efficient ways to resolve problems at a reasonable cost. He is the firm's representative on the Canadian management committee of Meritas, a global alliance of leading independent law firms, and is a former Chair of the firm's Student Hiring Committee.

Outside of his legal practice, Jeff is actively involved in the community. He is on the board of ASSIST, a non-profit that provides mental health support to Alberta's lawyers, students, and their families, and Providence, an organization that provides schooling for children with developmental delays and disabilities.
