Erik Lizee has worked in various roles since 1993. Erik began their career as an English Instructor at the World English Center, where they created curriculum and taught 20 ESL/cultural classes for all ability levels. In 1998, they became an Instructor at TRIO Upward Bound Program, where they created curriculum and taught a video documentary course for the program. In 1999, they were a Producer and Associate Producer at Alabama Public Television. In 2000, they became an Adjunct Instructor in the African American Studies Program at the University of Alabama. From 2001 to present, they have held various roles at McWane Science Center, including Vice President of Exhibits, Facilities & Planning, Director of Exhibits, Director of Exhibit Design and Development, Director of Media and Exhibit Development, Media Services Manager, and Newsroom Studio Exhibit Manager. In these roles, they have channeled the talents of the exhibit team and others to create and maintain meaningful science exhibits and learning environments, provided oversight in the facilities department’s role to provide a safe, clean, and effectively managed physical plant, supported the research, conservation, and proper management of McWane Science Center’s Collection, led the design, development, fabrication, maintenance and purchasing of hands-on learning exhibits, experiences and environments, managed the design, production and maintenance of facility and exhibit graphics, supervised the exhibit technology, exhibit production/maintenance, and design departments, orchestrated the exhibit design and development process of hands-on learning experiences, managed the development, design and maintenance of facility and exhibit signage and graphics, and provided project management and media and educational technology support across the organization.
Erik Lizee obtained a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and Psychology from Miami University between 1987 and 1991. Erik then went on to earn a Master of Arts in American Studies from The University of Alabama between 1997 and 2000. Additionally, in May 1992, they received a certification in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Instrument from Wright State University.
