Patrick Ryan has had a diverse range of work experience. Patrick started their career as a Cadet/Wiper at AHL Shipping Company and gained knowledge and skills as a welder, machinist, and steam plant engineer. Patrick then worked as a Yard Worker at Mass. Maritime Boat Donations, where they were responsible for maintaining donated boats and general yard maintenance. Following that, they worked as a Cadet at Edison Chouest Offshore, where they performed maintenance on machinery and assisted other engineers. Patrick also worked as a Keel Boat Instructor at Nantucket Community Sailing before becoming the Chief Engineer at MEBA Dist 1-PCD (AFL-CIO).

Patrick Ryan attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy from 2006 to 2010, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Marine Engineering. Patrick also studied Mechanical Engineering during their time at the academy.
