Tom McGushin is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with extensive experience in the mining industry, currently part of the Geotechnical Team at MEC Mining since November 2021. Prior to this role, Tom served as the head of the geotechnical department at Westgold Resources, overseeing the re-entry and production restart of the Big Bell mine. Tom has also contributed to geotechnical operations at Sandfire Resources, Newcrest Mining, and Northern Star Resources, specializing in ground support design, seismic hazard management, and rock mass classification. Tom's career began with a student role at Rio Tinto, where geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring were key responsibilities. Tom holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Geotechnical from the University of Tasmania and a Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue. Additionally, Tom has experience as an actor and tour guide with The Round Earth Company.
