Tara Smith

Tara Smith has a diverse work experience in the fields of biotechnology, therapeutics, and neuroscience. Tara is currently the Executive Vice President of Innovative Therapies at Med-Life Discoveries, where they oversee the development programs for plasmalogen replacement compounds targeting Rhizomelic Chondrodysplasia Punctata (RCDP). Prior to this role, Tara served as the VP of Therapeutics at Med-Life Discoveries, where they were responsible for the preclinical and clinical development of various compounds.

Before joining Med-Life Discoveries, Tara was the Chief Scientific Officer at GraySpace Therapeutics, leading the development program for PPI-1011 in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Tara also held the position of Senior Scientist and Team Lead at Med-Life Discoveries LP, where they contributed to therapeutic research.

Tara has a strong academic background, having worked as a Research Support Specialist at the University of Saskatchewan and held positions at Phenomenome Discoveries Inc. as a Senior Scientist in Neuroscience and a Research Scientist. Tara also gained teaching experience as a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan and a Biology Laboratory Teaching Assistant at the University of Regina.

Tara Smith obtained their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree with Honours in Biochemistry from the University of Regina - Luther College from 2000 to 2004. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Pharmacy from the University of Saskatchewan from 2004 to 2009. In 2022, Tara obtained a Certification in Applied Clinical Research from McMaster University Continuing Education. Additionally, in March 2023, they obtained the Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) certification from the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA).
