Paul J. Reckwerdt

Board Member at Medical Engineering Innovations (MEI)

Mr. Reckwerdt has been working for the past twenty-five years in medical-related product development and research. He founded and drove the growth of TomoTherapy Incorporated, a company selling a novel system for advanced cancer treatments. Besides being one of the originators and inventors of the TomoTherapy concept, he founded and guided the company through five successful rounds of investments, a very successful IPO with a market cap of $1.2 billion and the global launch of the Hi-ART system. Starting with seven people in 1999 he built the global infrastructure of the company to over 700 employees and installations in twenty-six countries around the world. Retiring in 2009 he currently is active in other scientific product development and relief work in the third world.

Mr. Reckwerdt’s early research at the University of Wisconsin included the implementation and analysis of clinical studies into Parkinson's disease, ALS, dementia, and epilepsy. Later research in cancer therapy has led to his entrepreneurial life and TomoTherapy.

He currently holds over twenty U.S. patents and sits on the advisory board of the UW Madison Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship, for which he speaks and mentors students, and is starting his fourth company.

The author or co-author of over 25 peer-reviewed papers and presentations, Mr. Reckwerdt is also the recipient of the Farrington Daniels Award in Medical Physics and the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
