Martin Main has a diverse and extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Martin currently serves as the Chief Scientific Officer at Medicines Discovery Catapult, where they are responsible for the science strategy and its execution through laboratory activities, informatics, and partnerships. Prior to this, Martin held the position of Chief Scientist at Medicines Discovery Catapult, where they played a crucial role in developing and applying new approaches for discovering future medicines. Martin also served as the Head of Discovery at Medicines Discovery Catapult and Head of Molecular Technologies. Martin worked at AstraZeneca as the Director of Discovery Biology, leading a large department focused on delivering reagents, assays, and data to support projects across various disease areas. Martin started their career at GlaxoSmithKline as a Senior Scientist, specializing in ion channel drug discovery. Martin's early experience includes working as a Pharmacologist at Merck.
Martin Main earned a Bachelor's Degree in Physiology from The University of Manchester from 1986 to 1989. Martin then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cardiac Physiology from St George's, University of London from 1992 to 1995. Following that, they completed a brief Post-Doctoral Scientist position in Pharmacology at the University of Leeds in 1995.
