Akhilesh Gokhale has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Akhilesh started their career as a Research Engineer at S.H.Pitkar Orthotools Pvt.Ltd. where they compared different pedicle screw systems and redesigned a mono-axial pedicle screw to improve its mechanical performance.

Akhilesh then worked as a Research Assistant at the Spine Pain Research Lab, University of Pennsylvania, where they planned and performed biomechanical studies on cadaveric specimens to investigate the cause of pain. Additionally, they successfully prepared hexahedral mesh models of biologic tissues for FEA studies, significantly improving simulation results in an intervertebral disc study.

Akhilesh then joined Abbott Point of Care as a Mechanical Design Engineer, where they were involved in the new product development of an electromechanical medical device. Akhilesh designed and prepared drawings of mechanical systems, implemented solutions to eliminate effects of vibration, and achieved the target accuracy.

At Maxx Orthopedics Inc., Akhilesh worked as a Product Development Engineer and successfully took multiple products through all stages of the product development cycle. Akhilesh worked with key surgeons to establish requirements and develop designs, provided novel and effective solutions to design problems, and prepared technical documentation. Akhilesh also ensured design, manufacturing, regulatory, and quality requirements were met.

Currently, Akhilesh is working as a Product Manager at MedShape, Inc. where they are managing the development of next-generation Foot & Ankle implants. The products utilize proprietary advanced material technologies and combine brilliant design with surgical expertise.

Throughout their career, Akhilesh has gained expertise in ISO 13485 Quality Management System and FDA 510(k) process. Akhilesh has also collaborated with surgeons and made key interpretations from the analysis of testing artificial intervertebral discs.

Akhilesh Gokhale completed their Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT College of Engineering from 2006 to 2010. Akhilesh then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania from 2010 to 2012.
