Craig Umscheid

Craig Umscheid, MD, MS, serves as the Associate Chief Quality and Safety Officer and Hospitalist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, alongside being the Senior Medical Director for Quality and Safety at MedStar Health. With extensive experience in healthcare quality and safety, Umscheid has previously held significant roles including Director of the Center for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and Chief Quality and Innovation Officer at The University of Chicago Medical Center. An adjunct professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Umscheid’s career has been marked by a focus on clinical quality improvement, evidenced by leadership in quality strategy and receiving notable awards for advancements in healthcare outcomes. Umscheid holds an MD from Georgetown University, a Master's in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University.
